Bedsore care

Bedsores occur when patients have to stay in one position for a long time. In the places of contact with the bed, blood circulation is gradually disrupted, and the skin atrophies, beginning to decompose. In addition, the condition is aggravated by reduced immunity and delayed regeneration.

\r\n\r\n

The formation of bedsores depends on the position of the patient. If the patient lays on his back for a long time, the buttocks, lower back and the shoulder blades area suffer. The position on the side, respectively, causes lesions of one side of the body.

Classification of bedsores

\r\n\r\n

It is necessary to take measures immediately after the symptoms have been detected. If you let the process go by itself, later you will have to resort to surgery, since necrosis will begin and deep ulcers will appear.

\r\n\r\n

First, you need to isolate the places with bedsores from contact with anything, using special anti-bedsore circles. Such devices will support the affected areas and ensure their absolute dryness. It is vital that there is no moisture on bedsores.

\r\n\r\n

Consulting a doctor concerning treatment is necessary. Independent intervention can only aggravate the situation.

\r\n\r\n

Stages of bedsore development:

\r\n\r\n
    \r\n
  • First. The skin turns red, does not whiten when pressed, and sometimes swells in the reddened areas. This superficial stage is treated most easily. If timely measures are taken, surgery will not be needed.
  • \r\n
  • Second. In addition to redness, small ulcers and blisters appear. It is important here to stop the escalation of inflammatory processes and suppuration with the help of compresses.
  • \r\n
  • Third. Necrosis begins, the bedsore becomes an in-depth wound, most often a purulent one. Fat and muscle tissues are visible.
  • \r\n
  • Fourth. Inflammation affects the tendon, and even the bone. Wounds suppurate heavily.
  • \r\n
\r\n\r\n

At the third and fourth stages, only surgical intervention can usually help.

How to get rid of bedsores?

\r\n\r\n

The method of eliminating the malignant process depends on the degree of the skin lesion. Before starting the treatment, you must consult a doctor.

\r\n\r\n

The first stage involves the following actions:

\r\n\r\n
    \r\n
  • every several hours, treat the affected areas with camphor alcohol;
  • \r\n
  • several times a day, wipe the skin with sea buckthorn oil or with Japanese sophora extract;
  • \r\n
  • prevent bedsores from getting wet.
  • \r\n
\r\n\r\n

Nota bene: do not massage the affected areas, otherwise you can damage the skin, infect it and provoke inflammation with suppuration. Apply oil very carefully.

\r\n\r\n

At the second stage, you will have to use medicines and perform the following actions:

\r\n\r\n
    \r\n
  • treat the wounds with an antiseptic 2-3 times a day (e.g., Chlorhexidine);
  • \r\n
  • after the first treatment, apply one of the ointments – Actovegin, Levomecol or Solcoseryl;
  • \r\n
  • apply hydrogel compresses regularly;
  • \r\n
  • apply healing substances (for example, Multiferm).
  • \r\n
\r\n\r\n

Medications are expensive, there is no point denying the fact, but they will help to recover faster and prevent the disease from escalating to the extreme stage.

\r\n\r\n

At the third and fourth stages, the following procedures are most often performed:

\r\n\r\n
    \r\n
  • the wounds are sanitized;
  • \r\n
  • the affected areas are cleared of necrotic formations;
  • \r\n
  • special wound-healing compresses (for example, with Proteox) are used;
  • \r\n
  • absorbent dressings are used to remove a large amount of pus.
  • \r\n
\r\n\r\n

When the bedsores are cleared and completely dried, treatment with specific medications can be started. In no case must you treat bedsores with folk methods, without consulting a doctor.
